We administer a portable long service leave scheme for the South Australian construction industry.
In South Australia, full-time, part-time, and casual employees who perform building, electrical or metal trades work predominantly on-site are entitled to portable long service leave.
This means eligible workers do not need to stay with the same employer for 10 years to qualify.
Employers of eligible workers are legally required to:
- Register with Portable Long Service Leave
- Lodge Employer Returns
- Pay a levy of 2% on remuneration (excluding apprentices, who are levy-free)
We maintain records of your employees’ service and pay their long service leave entitlements directly when they become eligible, at no additional cost to you.
To check whether you need to register, take a look at our coverage information.
If you are required to register, you can complete the application form online.
If you would like assistance, a Field Officer can visit your workplace to explain your obligations or help you with the registration, please contact us.
